From JBHS Graduate Kara Leigh Barrett

“I am a proud graduate from the James Buchanan High School’s class of 2010 .  Upon my graduation, I was ecstatic to learn I had been chosen as a recipient of The Margaret Stickell Tuscarora Education Foundation Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year.  I am greatly appreciative of this support in making my dream of graduating from college into a field I will immensely enjoy, possible.

My experiences at James Buchanan High school were undoubtedly beneficial and unforgettable.  The support and preparation for pursuing my education that I have obtained from the people in the Tuscarora education system, those of which I had the honor of getting to know and even those I had not, has been an incredible blessing!  The encouragement I receive from my high school peers and teachers has not ended even though I am now attending college.  Even during my first semester at Penn State Mont Alto, several of my high school peers and those that had graduated from JBHS before me were there to provide additional support and have become like brothers and sisters to me.  The teachers I now work with have recognized my knowledge acquisition skills, dedication to my education, and personal character and integrity that I was able to perfect while attending JBHS.  Being able to take part in community service events such as the 2010 Mercersburg Relay for Life, being a member of NHS, and even being able to participate in the high school musical production played a part in shaping me into the responsible individual I am and aspire to be.  To me, JBHS will always be a small school with a huge heart and will forever have a place in mine.

I am currently majoring in Human Development and Family Studies and plan on graduation with an Associate’s Degree. I am presently a freshman and am loving my choice of study already.  The generosity and support I have received from The Tuscarora Education Foundation has only provided more inspiration to pursue a career in helping others and giving back to the community.

I will continue to work with diligence and aspire to be worthy of the honor of such a scholarship as I have been presented with.  I am overwhelmed with gratitude that the Tuscarora Education Foundation has invested in me, my education, and my future and I desire to, one day, be able to devote similar support to others and make a positive impact in the community, country and world.  Thank you, James Buchanan High School and the Tuscarora Education Foundation, for taking me one step forward to achieving that goal.”
